Accor and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with Hersonissos Group Hotels, announced the development of the Fairmont Chania Resort, a new seafront property on the northwestern coast of Crete. The hotel will sit directly on a sandy beach with a beach club, and is scheduled to open in 2029.

The architectural design, led by Luciano Mazza, draws on the Venetian heritage of Chania and the city's maritime history, with influences from Carlo Scarpa. Interior design is by Inge Moore, while gardens and outdoor spaces are being designed by Phil Jaffa.

The resort will feature 104 rooms and suites, including 40 suites, five dining concepts and a specialty restaurant, plus a 900-square-metre wellness centre with six treatment rooms. It will also include a private chapel for weddings, a separate pool for events, and a kids club and teens club.

Fairmont currently operates 17 hotels and resorts across Europe and North Africa, with five more properties in the pipeline for the region, including the Victoria Golf Resort & Spa in Portugal.
