At Stalida, on Crete, Ikaros Beach Luxury Resort & Spa sits on a small hill with the sea around it. Heraklion International Airport is 33 kilometres away, and Heraklion town, its harbour and Agios Nikolaos are each about half an hour by car. The hotel speaks of privacy and rest, and its layout suggests it means it.

## The Setting

The resort is built in stone, and between 70 and 80 per cent of its accommodation looks out to sea. Rooms in the main building sit alongside bungalows and suites, some with a private pool. Shared spaces include a freshwater pool with a pool bar and snack bar, while the beach has sunbeds, umbrellas, towels and a beach bar.

## Rooms, Bungalows and Suites

The Ikaros Classic rooms, around 23 square metres, are in the main building and suited to couples: soft grey and earthy tones, a modern bathroom, minimal wooden details and a balcony or terrace facing the garden or the sea. The Classic bungalows, around 25 square metres, share the same palette and come with garden or sea views, and with a shared or a private pool. The Deluxe bungalows, around 33 square metres, add a sitting area, and a 28-square-metre bungalow has an outdoor Jacuzzi on a terrace overlooking the garden.

The larger spaces run from 40 to 48 square metres. The Junior Suites and Luxury Suites sit on the seafront, each with a private pool on the terrace. The Sea View Suites have a separate bedroom and living room, with or without a private pool. For three adults or a group of friends, there is the Superior Garden View, around 45 square metres, with a separate sitting room and sofa bed, and the two-bedroom Superior Sea View.

## Three Restaurants

The hotel offers all-inclusive and half-board options. The main dining room works on quick service and a wide range of local and international dishes. At Ammos Beach the service is more attentive and the kitchen turns to Cretan specialities. Ayeri is an à la carte restaurant with more refined service, where guests in the suites, the private-pool bungalows and the outdoor-Jacuzzi bungalow take breakfast and dinner. The bars look out over the sea, and room service carries an extra charge.

## Wellness

Beyond the pool and the beach, the resort has an indoor heated pool, a hammam, a sauna and a gym. The spa, massages and beauty treatments, available on request, are charged separately. Table tennis offers some movement during the day, and besides the 24-hour reception there is a travel desk, with car and motorbike rental for those who want to see more of the island.
