Former Sheraton Carlsbad converted into Hotel Solea, Autograph Collection

Azul Hospitality Group announced completion of the conversion of the former Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa into Hotel Solea, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection.

Azul Hospitality Group announced the successful conversion and repositioning of the former Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa into Hotel Solea, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, completed in March 2026.

The property underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation as part of the repositioning. Azul Hospitality Group managed the operational transition on behalf of Grand Pacific Resorts, overseeing all aspects of the conversion while maintaining operations throughout.

"Successfully repositioning a large-scale resort from a Sheraton to part of Marriott's Autograph Collection required close alignment across operations, ownership, brand standards, design, commercial strategy, and guest experience," said Alvaro Fraile, CEO of Azul Hospitality Group.

Located in Carlsbad, California, Hotel Solea includes 201 guestrooms and suites, several food-and-beverage outlets including signature restaurant Verise, and more than 70,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

"The transformation of Hotel Solea represents an important strategic investment in the long-term evolution of the asset," said Timothy Stripe, co-president of Grand Pacific Resorts.
