Greece among popular destinations for Belgian travelers

StatBel data show Greece featured among the destinations that attracted Belgian tourists last year.

According to final statistics published by the Belgian statistical office Statbel, Belgians made 31.2 million trips with at least one overnight stay last year, with 94% of them being leisure trips.

Of the nearly 30 million leisure trips, 9.4 million took place within Belgium. For trips abroad, cars were the most popular mode of transport (19.1 million trips), followed by planes (7.8 million trips).

France emerged as the most popular destination for Belgians, followed by the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Germany. Also among the destinations that attracted Belgian tourists were Morocco, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Austria and Greece.

Alongside leisure trips, 1.9 million business trips were recorded, with 18% staying within national borders. Most of these trips were made to neighboring countries such as France, Germany and the Netherlands.
