Kempinski to open hotel inside 800-year-old Prague monastery

Kempinski will open Augustine Hotel Prague in early 2027 within seven buildings of the 13th-century St. Thomas monastery.

Kempinski Hotels has announced it will open its Augustine Hotel in Prague in early 2027, set within an active 800-year-old monastery. Located in Prague's historic Malá Strana district, the hotel occupies seven historic buildings within the 13th-century Augustinian Monastery of St. Thomas and will undergo extensive renovation to bridge the monastery's history with Kempinski's branding.

The design is led by LDS Design Studio, incorporating Gothic, Baroque and Bohemian architectural influences. The hotel will host 101 guest rooms, including 20 suites, many featuring original vaulted ceilings and wooden beams from the monks' former living quarters.

Food and beverage concepts are developed in partnership with Gorgeous Group and Russell Sage Studio, featuring a salon-style dining room with live music and a cocktail program inspired by George Ripley's 12 alchemical steps. The hotel will also run alongside Kempinski's E.R.A.s program, connecting guests to local craftspeople and figures within the monastery setting.
