Marbella advances licensing for €175m Waldorf Astoria project
Marbella's council accepted for processing the Waldorf Astoria project, though this does not amount to a building permit.
Marbella's municipal council approved the processing of the planned Waldorf Astoria project and recognized it as a matter of municipal interest. The decision does not constitute a building permit but represents a step in the administrative process.
The project is being developed by Higuerón Golf Resort with an investment of €175 million and involves a five-star luxury complex linked to Marbella Golf, under Hilton's Waldorf Astoria brand. The complex would include 120 rooms, residences with one to four bedrooms, a clubhouse, dining venues, commercial spaces and sports facilities.
The broader property spans roughly 687,000 square meters, while the specific project covers about 8.9 hectares with an estimated 80,000 square meters of construction. Mayor Ángeles Muñoz described the development as "very good news for the city."
The municipal decision does not permit construction to begin. The project must still go through the submission of required studies and opinions, a public consultation period, and continuation of the urban planning process before the final permit can be requested.
