Negative opinion issued for 810-bed five-star hotel in Kos

The Asfendiou council voted against the ALDIANA KOS hotel project, citing infrastructure and traffic concerns.

The Asfendiou Municipal Community Council unanimously issued a negative opinion on the Environmental Impact Study for the new ALDIANA KOS hotel, a five-star property with a capacity of 810 beds in 270 rooms, at the Selveri site in Kos. The investor is DERTOUR Hotel & Investment Hellas. The plot covers 56,876.32 square meters, lies outside the urban plan and outside the Natura 2000 network, in the Municipal Unit of Dikaios.

The negative opinion focuses on the large scale of the project and the pressure it could place on existing infrastructure. Particular weight is given to the adequacy of the water supply and sewerage networks, with the condition that no problems arise in water provision for the wider area.

The opinion also raises concerns about traffic congestion, especially during peak tourist season, and about preserving the natural and landscape character of the area.

The project file includes a document from the Kos Municipality Planning Directorate stating there is no zoning obstacle to the investment, provided all legal requirements are met.
