Shangri-La announces new hotel opposite Nijō Castle in Kyoto
Songtei Kyoto, a 77-key hotel, will be the second property in the Shangri-La Signatures collection, opening in late 2026.
Shangri-La Group has announced Songtei Kyoto, Shangri-La Signatures, a new hotel opposite Nijō Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kyoto, Japan. The 77-key hotel will be the second property in the ultra-luxury Shangri-La Signatures collection.
The hotel is set to welcome its first guests from late 2026, with additional facilities opening progressively ahead of a full property unveiling in early 2027. It is located on the former residence of the Kyoto Shoshidai, a historic site in the city, with rooms designed to frame views of the Kita Ote-mon (Great North Gate) of Nijō Castle and its gardens.
The property will feature a wellness sanctuary with a private spa, indoor and outdoor hot baths, an indoor pool and a gym. Its culinary programme will include an all-day dining lounge, a Chinese fine dining restaurant, a kappo-sushi counter and a bar.
The collection's first property, The Silk Lakehouse, Shangri-La Hangzhou, opened on the shores of West Lake in China and has received international recognition, including inclusion in TIME Magazine's World's Greatest Places 2026.
