The Social Hub files plans for new Edinburgh hospitality site
The Social Hub has submitted plans for a 580-bed student, hotel and extended-stay facility on the former Fountain Brewery site in Edinburgh.
The Social Hub, founded by Edinburgh-born Charlie MacGregor, has submitted proposals for the former Fountain Brewery site in Fountainbridge, vacant for around 20 years. The scheme is part of a wider masterplan to regenerate the area, including affordable housing and a new canal-side public square.
The proposal centres on a 580-bed facility combining student, hotel and extended-stay accommodation. It also includes a co-working space for up to 300 people, flexible workspaces, a restaurant, café, rooftop bar, clubhouse, theatre and gym.
According to the company, the development is expected to create up to 100 jobs, support more than 280 roles, and boost the local economy by £15.5 million. The building is targeting BREEAM Excellent certification.
The Social Hub held public consultations in the area last year, with resident feedback informing the final plans. The proposals have already secured support from organisations including the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and CodeBase.
Charlie MacGregor, founder and CEO, said submitting the plans was a "landmark moment" for both the company and himself personally, as Edinburgh is his home city.
