The historic St. James Hotel in Selma, Alabama, has reopened and joined Marriott Bonvoy under the Series by Marriott collection.
The St. James Hotel in Selma, Alabama, has reopened and joined the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio through the Series by Marriott collection. The property is managed by Spire Hospitality. Overlooking the Alabama River, the building has been part of Selma's story since 1837 and is the only remaining riverfront antebellum hotel in the country.
Mike Hogan, area general manager for Spire Hospitality, said the reopening was made possible through financing from Sarah Feinberg and investment from the Woodforest CEI-Boulos Opportunity Fund. He noted that the hotel's owners are native Alabamians committed to Selma's revival.
Cymethia Rudolph, general manager of the hotel, described the property as a downtown Selma landmark since 1837, located near the Alabama River and Civil Rights-era sites.
The 55-room boutique hotel sits near the National Voting Rights Museum, the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the Old Town Historic District, and sites along the U.S. Civil Rights Trail. Rooms include complimentary WiFi, HDTVs and workspaces, while the property also offers a restaurant, fitness center, meeting space, breakfast and parking.
