Thompson Hotels makes Italian debut with new Rome property
Hyatt has opened Thompson Rome, a 69-room hotel in a renovated 1940s building near Piazza Venezia, marking the brand's Italian debut.
Hyatt Hotels has announced the opening of Thompson Rome, a 69-room hotel owned and operated by AG Group s.r.l. and Rossifin Group. The property marks the debut of the Thompson Hotels brand in Italy. It is located on Via delle Botteghe Oscure, near Piazza Venezia and within walking distance of the Roman Forum, the Pantheon and the Colosseum.
The hotel occupies a renovated 1940s building. During the renovation, original elements such as a marble staircase were restored, while a sculptural wall and inlaid floor by Italian artist Gio Pomodoro, hidden for decades, were rediscovered and preserved.
"Rome has such a strong identity, so we wanted Thompson Rome to start with the city itself," said Amar Lalvani, Chief Creative Officer, Hyatt Corporation. General manager Arturo Gomez said the goal is for the hotel to become a starting point for travellers and a place locals want to return to.
The hotel includes 19 suites, among them the 104-square-metre Thompson Suite with an 80-square-metre private terrace. It also features three food and beverage venues: LYVE Restaurant led by chef Fabio Fioravanti, LYVE Rooftop overlooking the city, and the Lobby Lounge.
