Permit granted for 41-bed guesthouse in listed Psyrri building
Greece's environment ministry approved building terms for restoring a listed property and adding two new structures to form a tourist complex in Psyrri.
A listed building at 9 Sachtouri Street in Psyrri is at the center of a plan to create a tourist accommodation facility with a capacity of 41 beds. Greece's Ministry of Environment and Energy set supplementary building terms and restrictions allowing restoration of the existing two-story building and expansion of the complex with two new buildings.
The plan foresees use of the complex as a non-primary hotel accommodation, combining the reuse of the listed building with new construction on the same property, within the designated traditional section of Athens. It involves restoration of the original two-story neoclassical building, listed as protected since 1993. The plan allows reinforcement of the remaining stone masonry and construction of a new reinforced concrete structural frame, as well as demolition of a later addition in ruinous condition.
The expansion will consist of two new three-story buildings with roofs: Building A, attached to the existing structure, and Building B, set at a distance from it. The design includes a single basement, with the complex's total capacity set at 41 beds.
Work will proceed according to a technical justification report and an architectural study comprising fifteen drawings and diagrams, in compliance with applicable urban planning regulations and the provisions of the building's listed status.
This is the second approval we have recorded in recent days for a new hotel project in Psyrri, following the approval of a geotechnical survey for the foundation of a 5-star hotel in the same area.
